IMB offers a unique, fully-funded, 2-year missions opportunity for college graduates under age 30. As a Journeyman, you can be sent by your church through IMB to join an international missionary team to share the gospel, make disciples, and help plant churches.
While all Journeymen are involved in evangelism, discipleship, and church planting, the specific role they play on a missionary team varies from person to person, team to team, and place to place. Responsibilities could include leadership development and training, volunteer coordination, teaching English, homeschooling missionary kids, sports ministries, working in coffee shops, community development, research and mapping, and a variety of other tasks. Regardless of the specific role, the primary purpose of a Journeyman is to contribute to the missionary task as part of an IMB missionary team.
There are standard qualifications that all Journeymen must meet. They must be active Southern Baptists, permanent US citizens (or possess a 10-year green card), affirm the Baptist Faith and Message, have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, and be physically, emotionally, and spiritually cleared to serve full-time with the IMB. Journeymen can be singles or married couples with no children, and they must work well in a team environment.

“I did not known the that this international city was going to grab my heart, captivate it at times, and shatter it at others for the nations. There is something so devastatingly thrilling, yet utterly exhausting about the hustle and bustle of life in an urban context. Living in this massive city has taught me to love with urgency but not with haste.

“If you’re a college student looking for a life-altering opportunity, no organization is better equipped to mobilize college students than the IMB. You’ll be assigned to a location where your work will be part of an ongoing strategy. You will be equipped not only for your task, but for a lifetime of missions work.

“In obeying the simple commands of Christ, much sacrifice will ensue. Yet, it will be answered with a greater understanding of Him and His word, the world, your purpose, great friendships, and salvation.

“Sending students globally has produced many changes in our campus ministry. We have become more focused on serving others and have developed impacting partnerships with career missionaries. Students’ faith in God has grown as they have experienced the Lord providing their resources for going and using their spiritual gifts in ministry.
