Dorothy J. Ditty

Dorothy Jeannette Schill Ditty, an emeritus International Mission Board missionary who shared the gospel among the Sub-Saharan African people in South Africa, died July 13, 2019. She was 84.

Born in Louisville, Ohio, on July 5, 1935, she was the daughter of the late John Herman and Ethel Mae Craig Schill. She earned a Christian Worker’s Certificate from Clear Creek Baptist Bible College, Pineville, Ky.

She married James Edward Ditty of Louisville, Ky., on June 26, 1954. After Jim had worked 20 years as a research chemist, he answered God’s call to ministry, which eventually led them to be appointed as IMB missionaries on April 12, 1988. They served 10 years, she as a church and home worker and Jim in theological education. The Dittys had been married for almost 62 years when he died in 2016.

Ditty was a member of Wasioto Baptist Church in Pineville, Ky.

She is survived by her children: James Edward Ditty, Jr., (Jenny), Logan, Ohio; John Glenn Ditty (Charlene), Pineville, Ky.; Tanya Jean Ditty, Alexandria, Va.; Mary Brown Frasier (Kerry), Fort Worth, Texas; and Tina Upchurch, Grand Prairie, Texas; son-in-law, Merle Dearing, Logan; sister, Jan Decker, Massillon, Ohio;  brother, Dean Schill, Flagstaff, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
