Robert Junior Plummer, an International Mission Board missionary emeritus who shared the gospel in Dominican Republic and Trinidad, died March 22, 2021. He was 81.
Plummer was born on Jan. 13, 1940, in Rockingham County, North Carolina, to the late Charlie Robert Plummer and Margaret Ramsey Plummer. On Dec. 17, 1961, he married Linda Brown. He graduated from Madison (North Carolina) High School and received the Bachelor of Arts from Gardner-Webb University, Boiling Springs, North Carolina, and the Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wake Forest, North Carolina.
Plummer served as pastor of Beaver Creek Baptist Church in Heath Springs, South Carolina; Wade Baptist Church in Wadesboro, North Carolina; and Sawyers Creek Baptist Church in Camden, North Carolina.
In 1985, the International Mission Board appointed Robert and Linda as missionaries to Dominican Republic. Robert served about 20 years as a church planter and theological educator in the Dominican Republic and in Trinidad and Tobago until retirement in 2006.
The Plummers returned to North Carolina, where Robert served as interim pastor at Grace Baptist Church, Madison, North Carolina, for two years and served the congregation at Dan Valley Baptist Church, Madison.
Plummer was preceded in death by a daughter, Regina Plummer Justus.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Linda Brown Plummer; daughter, Denise Plummer Sexton (Martin) of High Point; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a sister, Betty Jean “Sissy” Plummer Holland of Wentworth.
A service was held March 27, 2021, at Grace Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.
