Hubert Fox, an International Mission Board missionary emeritus who shared the gospel in Thailand, died Sept. 13, 2025. He was 92.
Hubert was born Oct. 4, 1932, in Nevada, Missouri, to the late John Albert and Lorine Ruth Wolfe Fox. He graduated from Nevada High School and received the Bachelor of Arts from William Jewell College, Liberty, Missouri, and the Master of Divinity from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri.
He was led to Christ by his mother at the age of 8. About the time he began high school, he dedicated his life to serving God. Shortly after this dedication, he preached his first sermon at his home church. After graduation in 1952, he began preaching part time and working in a garment factory until he enrolled in Baylor in the fall of 1953. Hubert continued to have many opportunities for supply preaching in the following years. When he was called as pastor of Sylvan Dale Baptist Church in Moundvale, Missouri, he met Ann Robinson, the song leader for the church. They were married on June 26, 1955.
In June 1959, Hubert enrolled in seminary, and it was there he became increasingly aware of Southern Baptist missions. While seeking missionary appointment he wrote, “I had not felt any particular call, but God was preparing the way. Through the Mission Days I was led to promise God that I was willing to go if He should call me.” In the summer of 1960 that call came. At an annual Baptist association meeting, he felt God calling him to give his life completely to serving Him. Ann, too, felt God’s leadership and call. As they talked and prayed, together they felt God was definitely calling them to foreign mission service.
In 1963, the International Mission Board appointed Hubert and Ann missionaries to Thailand. During their 35 years overseas, his family said, Hubert served as a pastor and later as a professor at the Thailand Baptist Theological Seminary, where the Hubert Fox Chair of New Testament was endowed upon his retirement.
Hubert was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Ann Fox; and their son, Philip Fox.
He is survived by his daughter, Beth Gregory (Charles), daughter-in-law, Cathy Fox, and nine grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Sept. 20 at First Baptist Church in Nevada, Missouri, with burial in Moore Cemetery.
