Mark Moses, an International Mission Board missionary emeritus who shared the gospel in the Philippines, died July 2, 2026, in Winona, Texas. He was 68.
Mark was born Nov. 7, 1957, in Fort Worth, Texas, to the late Buddy Moses and Vera Dutch Moses. He received the Bachelor of Arts from Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, and the Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth.
While seeking missionary appointment, Mark recalled hearing a missionary speak at his church while growing up. He wrote, “I sensed a prompting then that this could be an area to which God might call me in the future. A few years ago, I found a paper I had even written as a school assignment dated Nov. 11, 1968. Its title was ‘What Do I Want to Be When I Grow Up?’ and the first sentence read, ‘I want to be a “missunairy” when I am 25.’”
After his first year of seminary, Mark received an invitation to serve for one year at the Southern Baptist College in M’Lang, Philippines. He taught Bible classes, preached, led discipleship groups and became involved in church planting. During this time, his call to missions was confirmed.
In April 1983 he met Jan Joness through his church fellowship group. With a shared calling to missions, Mark and Jan were married on Dec. 31, 1983. He joined the staff of Birchman Baptist Church in Fort Worth as director of single adults. In May 1985, he graduated from seminary.
In 1985, the International Mission Board appointed Mark and Jan missionaries to the Philippines. Mark served for almost four decades in several roles, including church planter, teacher, disaster relief coordinator, pastor and evangelist.
Mark was preceded in death by his wife of 23 years, Jan Moses.
He is survived by his five children, David Moses (Andrea) of Fort Worth; Sara Breitling (David) of Fort Worth; Hannah Kellogg (Daniel) of Winona; Martha Dorr (Philip) of Richmond, Virginia; and Jonathan Moses of Fort Worth; and five grandchildren.
A funeral service was held July 18 at Greenwood’s Live Oak Chapel in Fort Worth.
