The Ndengereko number around 285,000. They are only located in Tanzania and live along the Rufiji River. Their primary language is Ndengereko, and their primary religion is Islam. There are very few evangelical believers among them. The Ndengereko are subsistence farmers who grow mainly cassava, maize, rice, millet, sesame, coconuts and cashew nuts.
