The Chikunda primarily farm along the Zambezi River. Many Chikunda believe that ancestors are their mediators to God. The pastors in the several churches in their villages mix ancestral and traditional worship with church programs. Most Chikunda see nothing wrong with this syncretism. Extreme poverty and a polluted understanding of the gospel are major challenges.
“‘Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the LORD GOD is
my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.’” (Isaiah 12:2 ESV)
