The Great Commission
The mission of God can be read on every page of scripture. From before creation, God had in mind a redemptive plan to create a people unto himself for his glory among every nation in the world (Eph 1). But likely the clearest and most succinct telling of God's plan for his people is in the Great Commission.
Then Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:18-20, HCSB).
Those words have been a catalyst for believers throughout generations to take the gospel to both neighbors and the nations, and rightly so. The command to go and make disciples is meant for every follower of Christ—a central tenet of our faith.
Revelation 7:9 depicts an innumerable assembly around the throne comprised of people from every tribe, nation, and language. Not one will be missing. That image demands then that we go to all of the people around the world who've not yet heard and proclaim the gospel. Not every believer will go to the ends of the earth, but we most certainly each have a role to play in obedience to the Great Commission.
