Send Relief meets needs following Morocco earthquake

Send Relief responded to the powerful magnitude 6.8 earthquake in Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains within hours of it hitting Sept. 8. Local partners mobilized to meet urgent needs and provide supplies for families in the affected region.

The earthquake destroyed buildings and homes. Current estimates place the death toll at more than 2,000 with more than 1,500 injured. Some news agencies are reporting fatality tolls that are much higher. These numbers are expected to rise since most of the damage is in remote, mountainous villages that are hard to reach. Search and rescue efforts are underway.

Send Relief is working to meet needs as they arise and can use your help. At the moment, the biggest needs revolve around prayer and donations for supplies. Your gifts to Send Relief’s Respond to Crisis — International Fund will help provide food, water and shelter to communities recovering from the earthquake.

While there are no requests for U.S. volunteers to physically be in Morocco, as of now, field partners ask for volunteers to bathe this area in prayer. This is crucial for making an impact in an ever-changing disaster response.

  • Pray for survivors as they are fearful and many are without shelter.
  • Pray for families that have lost loved ones in the deadly earthquake.
  • Pray for healing care for the hundreds injured and in need of medical care.
  • Pray for Send Relief leaders and partners as they continue to ramp up response efforts.
  • Pray for believers in the region as they help their neighbors, that they can point them to Christ for their ultimate hope amid this deadly crisis.
