In memoriam: Missionary emeritus Brenda Nell Ringer, 1948-2023

Brenda Nell Ringer, an International Mission Board missionary emeritus who shared the gospel in Thailand, died Dec. 9, 2023, in Mulhall, Oklahoma. She was 75.

Brenda was born May 14, 1948, in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, to Leo Eugene Barnes and Geneva Hattie (Boatwright) Barnes. She graduated from Sulphur High School and received the Bachelor of Science from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

She married Douglas Ringer in 1970.

In 1972, the Foreign Mission Board (now International Mission Board) appointed Brenda and Douglas missionaries to Laos. After the country fell to communism, they transferred to Thailand. They served for 35 years in several areas throughout Thailand.

Her obituary reported that “During this time Brenda taught English, piano and homeschooled her sons. She moved over 17 times and had many interesting experiences leading her to say about her life, ‘I was never bored.’” They retired in 2010.

Brenda is survived by her husband, Douglas Ringer and her sons, Joshua and Crystal Ringer of Mulhall; Steven and Joey Ringer of Goddard, Kansas; and Matthew and Sylvia Ringer of New Castle, Colorado; and 10 grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Dec. 15, 2023, at First Baptist Church, Mulhall, Oklahoma.
