Humanitarian Relief–The Gospel Displayed in Europe

Provide for the basic needs of refugees, and help IMB missionaries minister and witness to displaced men, women and children.

Based on a 2018 study, one in four Europeans is at risk of living in poverty. That’s more than 100 million people in need of food, shelter, medicines and other necessities. For missionaries who share the love of Christ with impoverished people in Europe, the door to engage them with the gospel is open. Your gift will provide for the basic needs of people in Europe and help IMB missionaries minister and witness to these impoverished and oppressed men, women and children.

An IMB worker shared this story of the thousands of refugees who come into Europe with virtually nothing. Your generosity makes stories like this possible.

Stifan* is an Iranian believer who came to faith last year in one of the refugee camps in Greece. He was discipled by a man named Hossein*, himself a refugee who came to Christ in the camps and who is now a ministry partner with IMB workers. Stifan has moved to northern Greece and has led multiple others to faith. He meets with them twice a week for discipleship and worship. There is a Greek evangelical pastor in the city who allows them to meet in his church. This beautiful picture of God’s kingdom growing amid the tragic refugee reality is one that IMB workers in Greece see over and over again.

“Refugee believers are discipling new refugee believers down six generations, and one-time refugees, who are now legal residents and faithful followers of Jesus, are planting third-generation churches throughout Europe,” said one IMB worker.

Because of the overwhelming number of refugees and the delay in UN approvals, many now find themselves stuck in Greece for years. God has not forgotten this desperate situation. IMB workers are seeing tremendous opportunities to train and equip these new believers to advance God’s kingdom for the future—whenever and wherever they settle.

God continues to do amazing things through the ongoing refugee crisis, and His will is certainly being accomplished. Partner today to show the gospel in practical ways through humanitarian relief.

Sharing the gospel and supplying aid in the Balkans!

Thank you so much for your generous giving to the Humanitarian Relief – The Gospel Displayed in Europe project. Here are just a few recent updates that show your gifts at work. Recently, our teams developed a relationship with a doctor in the Balkans to reach the community in this area. Through access to his patients, we can show God’s love and share the gospel. Because of your generosity through this project, we plan to serve this doctor through the purchase of a new $500 computer which he needed badly. Also in the Balkans, our teams are partnering with a pastor to minister to a community that was recently devastated by floods. We identified 14 families who have no income and need food. Together, we and the pastor are ministering to these families and helping provide for their needs while also sharing the gospel. Around $400 supports ministry to these families each month, which you help provide. Thank you so much. Praise God that there are several new believing families through this ministry! IMB workers have started new Bible studies in the homes of several of these families, but some of them are living below the poverty level. They do not have electricity or plumbing and have asked workers to help them purchase a gas stove so they can cook food. Your gifts are going to fulfill these needs. We are so grateful for your partnership and prayer!

European Peoples

With 810 million people, 51 sovereign states and 200 spoken languages, Europe is rich in diversity and character. These distinct cultures create a continent of global influence through language, politics, finance, fashion, and food. Though diverse, the peoples of Europe do have one thing in common—more than 98% do not follow Jesus.

Instead of seeing Europe’s decidedly post-Christian culture as a hindrance, IMB teams see the potential of what God wants to do on and through this influential continent. Not only do Europeans need the hope of the gospel, making it a primary place for ministry, but the global reach of its cities also makes it a strategic place as well. Immigrants comprise more than 15% of the population of gateway cities such as London, Paris, Madrid and Vienna.

Through dreaming big and taking faith-filled risks, IMB teams are connecting with European nationals, sharing the gospel and training local leaders. Their aim is to develop strong local leadership in every city and province who will lead biblically faithful and reproducing churches. Churches that plant new healthy churches will send the gospel to the nations of the world from every borough, town and village of the beautifully diverse continent of Europe.
