The arrival of the Paris 2024 Olympics and Paralympics offers an unparalleled opportunity. More than 10,500 athletes will gather from nearly every nation on Earth. As people from around the world gather in Paris to watch these incredible athletes, God is giving us an opportunity to connect and proclaim the gospel to people groups from around the globe – many who otherwise do not have access to the gospel.
The Olympic games also shift the mindset of locals, whose hearts may be open to different ideas they hear from visitors. Protestants account for less than 2% of the French population, and evangelicals only 1%, making the French one of the largest unreached people groups in the world. We must take advantage of this incredible opportunity to train believers, strategically and creatively share the gospel, strengthen partnerships, and establish new connections!
Paris is one of the three largest cities in Europe, and one of the IMB’s goals is to engage 75 Global Cities with comprehensive mission strategies by 2025. The upcoming Olympic events provide a unique opportunity to engage Paris in strategic and creative avenues. As this event approaches, we are focusing on forming deeper relationships with the Baptist Federation, local churches in France, and our Southern Baptist churches in the States. We have plans to train local French believers in relational evangelism to work alongside U.S. volunteers in outreach ministries to global peoples attending the Olympic Games.
Paris is expensive, and prices will rise during the Olympics. The expenses needed to provide evangelism resources, training materials and locations, strategic online resources, transport, and other logistical needs are tremendous.
