Team Associates are non-IMB funded missionaries who are active members of an IMB missionary team. Team Associates engage in the missionary task as they are able through their job, as retirees, or in some cases as ministry professionals. Team Associates leverage their respective platforms (job, education, as retirees) to enhance and expand the impact of the missionary team. The majority of Team Associates are not giving their primary focus to the missionary task, but as they are able, they come alongside the team and help contribute to the overall church planting strategies of an IMB missionary team.
Team Associates are non-IMb funded missionaries. They are self-funded through their job or through their own personal resources.
Role on the Missionary Team
The specific role that Team Associates play on a missionary team varies from person to person, team to team, and place to place. However, Team Associates are primarily those who seek to contribute to the missionary team through their job or education in new segments of society.
Team Associates serve a minimum of a one-year commitment.
All Team Associates must be active Southern Baptists, permanent US citizens (or possess a 10-year green card), and affirm the Baptist Faith &Message.
All IMB Team Associates are assessed and approved by both their sending church and by the IMB. The IMB Team Associate assessment process is much more concise but does include an overall background check.
A weekend onsite and in-person training is required for all Team Associates. Team Associates can be reimbursed for some of the expenses involved in this training.
Benefits and Services
All Team Associates receive the following benefits: Risk management/evacuation support and technology support. Team Associates also receive consultation services on issues related to medical coverage, housing, visa support, children education support, transportation assistance, and member care/counseling.
