Rescue teams continue to clean up the street of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, three weeks after the 2010 earthquake. Moving heavy machinery downtown proved difficult due to the amount of wreckage. Haitians cleared out a lot of the wreckage by hand and salvaged bits of wood and plastic to make shelters. The 7.0 magnitude earthquake’s epicenter hit just 10 miles west of Port-au-Prince and its two million inhabitants, leaving hundreds of thousands of people who survived the earthquake in desperate need of medical care. An estimated 230,000 people died, and workers continue to find bodies as the area is cleared.
